Students in secondary education have to develop a range of thinking skills that will enable them to engage fully with their curriculum and develop the cognitive skills necessary to become active and engaged citizens. Across the curriculum we help our students to define concepts and classify information. We encourage them to predict results and compare data. We teach them to question, to reason, to evaluate, and hypothesise. Developing learners who can engage with these thinking skills through a second or other language is crucial to developing global citizens of the future. This webinar will explore the relationship between language and cognition. We will look at the types of thinking skills students need to develop, and the language needed to develop these skills through English. We will look at strategies and activities for developing these thinking skills in the language classroom or in the CLIL classroom.
This webinar will suit Language Teachers and CLIL Teachers in secondary school.
